How the Process Works

A clear path from first contact to resolution

How the Process Works

The legal process can feel complex — especially during difficult times in life. On this page, I explain clearly what you can expect at each stage. My goal is to ensure you always know where things stand, what will happen next, and what decisions need to be made.

ConfidentialityFrom the very first contact. Attorney-client privilege protects you.
TransparencyI will discuss pricing, timelines, and options before you decide to proceed.
Your DecisionAgreements, settlements, and resolutions — you always make the final decision once you have the information you need.
Personal ServiceThe same attorney handles your case from start to finish. No rotating faces.
Phase 1

Initial Contact

Call, email, or fill out the contact form. Briefly describe your situation; the conversation is confidential. If I cannot assist you, I will refer you to a law firm whose expertise matches your needs or to another appropriate resource that can better help you.

  • I respond to inquiries on weekdays as quickly as possible — typically the same or the next business day.
  • The initial discussion does not commit you to anything.
  • I provide services in Finnish and English.
Phase 2

Free Case Assessment and Consultation

We review your matter by phone, email, or video call. We go through the facts of your case and the expected timeline. The assessment usually lasts 15–30 minutes, depending on the complexity of the matter.

I will explain whether I can assist you both legally and schedule-wise. If I can, we will jointly evaluate your potential legal costs and whether you may qualify for state-funded legal aid based on your income, court-appointed counsel regardless of income, or coverage through your legal expenses insurance (e.g., as a victim in criminal matters or in child custody modification cases).

If you wish to retain me, we will schedule a formal consultation.

Phase 3

Engagement and Pricing

If you decide to retain me, we will hold a meeting to review the terms of the engagement, including the basis and structure of billing. We will first go through the agreement and confirm it.

Billing is fully transparent — you will always see what work is being billed.

You may terminate the engagement at any time if you are not satisfied with my work or for any other reason feel you no longer need my services. (Please note, however, that if I have been appointed as your counsel through a legal aid decision or court appointment, I must request release from the court, which will determine whether grounds for release exist. In most cases, a notification of loss of confidence is sufficient.)

Phase 4

Preparation and Documentation

I will gather the necessary information and documents. I prepare applications, draft agreements, or appeals and keep you informed of every significant development.

  • You will know exactly which documents are required — no need to have everything prepared in advance.
  • I will review all drafts with you before anything is submitted to authorities or the opposing party.
  • I track all deadlines and notify you if additional information is needed.
Phase 5

Negotiation or Official Proceedings

Many matters are resolved through negotiation and agreement. When necessary, I will represent you in district court, administrative court, or before other authorities. I handle communications with the opposing party and authorities on your behalf.

In family matters, every effort is made to reach a negotiated solution when possible.

I will always explain what is happening at each stage and what is expected of you.

Decisions — such as approving a settlement — are always yours.

Phase 6

Resolution: Agreement, Decision, or Judgment

Your matter concludes with an agreement, an authority decision, or a court judgment.

  • Reaching a settlement is often the fastest and best solution for the future, especially in situations where you will need to continue interacting with the other party (e.g., child-related matters).
  • In litigation, I prepare your case thoroughly and represent you with professionalism and dedication.
  • Before you decide whether to accept a settlement offer or seek a court resolution, I will provide a realistic assessment of your chances of achieving the desired outcome in court.
Phase 7

Final Decision and Follow-Up Actions

It is often possible to appeal a court or authority decision within a set deadline. I can assist with the appeals process if needed.

  • I will clearly inform you of deadlines for filing notices of dissatisfaction and appeals.

You are welcome to contact me even after the case has concluded if your situation changes.

This description provides general information only. Every case is unique — the specific timeline and steps will be clarified during the case assessment. Please also see our pricing and FAQ.

First contact and case assessment are free. Briefly describe your situation — we will agree on the next steps together.
